Lynn Haven Dedicates Trailhead to Frances Wittkopf of the Rails-to-Trails Project

The City of Lynn Haven will be hosting its first Rails-to-Trails trailhead dedication ceremony in honor of former Commissioner Frances Wittkopf. The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 8:30am and will take place at the southeast corner of Hwy 390 and Georgia Ave., where Phase 2 of the project is located.

Former Commissioner Wittkopf was one of the community leaders had the vision for the Rails-to-Trails project in Lynn Haven. She received a lot of support from former commissioners Barnes and Friend. The decision to dedicate the first trailhead to former commissioner Wittkopf was made in a March 2019 Commission Meeting.

Rails-to-Trails is a non-profit that develops multipurpose public paths created from former railroad corridors. In collaboration with the local 501(c)(3) called Friends of Bay County Trails, the Lynn Haven trail will support Rails-to-Trails mission to “build healthier places for healthier people”. Panhandle Engineering will handle the engineering of this project. At the dedication ceremony Chris Forehand, the vice president of Panhandle Engineering will discuss some details about trail and its development.

As Mayor Margo Anderson stated: “We are so proud to honor Frances Wittkopf and express our gratitude for all her hard work on the Rails to Trails Project by dedicating this trailhead to her. Mrs. Wittkopf’s work on this project transcended her time as a Commissioner and alongside her, former Commissioners Barnes and Friend continued to push forward on this project. We are so grateful to everyone that has made this dream a reality and look forward to continuing progress on the trails for all to enjoy.”
